Respite is a short-term option for carers who need a break from their usual caring responsibilities, at the same time, it provides the person who receives the care with an opportunity for socialisation and / or skills development.

The Uniting Goulburn North East Respite Program provides day and overnight respite options to carers of people who are living with dementia, frail aged people (>65 years), an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander aged over 50 years and adults with other conditions causing them to need support.

Community Respite Houses

The goal of this respite model is to provide a non-threatening and meaningful environment in which care recipients can participate and engage in interests and activities to ensure a positive respite experience. We provide a person-centred approach and support that is meaningful to the individual and their carer. Our care is sensitive to the needs of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Neil Stewart House (Wangaratta) and Cornishvale (Mooroopna) are both five-bedroom houses, with McFarland house (Wodonga) being a six-bedroom house. All houses are situated in pleasant garden settings. Each house has been specifically designed as a respite facility.

There is a cost associated with this service.
